The lameness of Evening Pages when it is too late to write.....

6-16-11 thursday
9:50 pm
Trouble with evening pages: I'm tired!!
I've been having the absolutely number one numero uno bestest of all times. I am here at the farm spending pretty much all my time carding carding carding wool. It's somewhat obsessive, I know, but it is what I wanted to do. At this point I have carded up a nice batch of light green/yellow stuff ready to spin, and I am in the middle of blending some darker green/gray stuff. I still have to do the last blend and then that will be done. None of it is exciting per say, but I think both will be very pretty. I think I will spin them up as the 1 ounce skeins I have been doing lately. Except that I might, especially with the darker stuff, do one big 4 ounce skein and knit it into a scarf. I also looked over a bunch of the dyed stuff that I have, so I have ideas of what to do next. One big next is some lovely turquoise stuff that I think I will card up and spin for something for my niece and her fiance.
ok i am too tired to write anything else, how lame.....

Using A Mac!

6-12-11 monday
9 pm
Default Evening Pages, since I did try writing Morning Pages this morning, using this (L's) computer, but then lost what I wrote. This evening I tried again and am having much better success. She said she would set up a page for me and it would not need a password, but in fact it does need a password, which threw me off quite a bit, then tonight I had the brilliant idea to click the "forgot password" button and the password clue that she apparently left was "password is jenny." Very very clever. So I got on my very own page which means any work I have I can actually save. And I have just figured out (remembered) that to copy and paste something (as in onto Blogger) I use "Command C." AND earlier I somehow figured out how to connect to the internet. She was right, it is fairly intuitive. Now I must just somehow come up with $1500 ($2000?) to get my own my very own little Apple. Well.....
So here I am, at the Farm and having an Absolutely Fabulous Time!!!!! All by myself, doing exactly what I want exactly when I want to. It is truly truly truly lovely. As expected, I have been mostly carding all day. I haven't done any blending, just making nice batts from several different bags of dyed wool. Next I need to decide how and if I am going to blend/combine things. I'm going with a green theme right now. I've been listening a lot to the radio, the fund drive, just like in past years. Kind of lame, I suppose, but the honest truth is that I like listening to it. It's basically just folks chatting away, being quite amusing, in the background while I work. I took a long walk in the woods. Well, I'll amend that. The walk was short - just up to the foundations, but then the sitting there beside the brook just thinking/meditating/doing not much was the long part. It was perfect. Now, pretty shortly I will go to bed. Maybe I'll read a bit of Mr. Sammler's Planet, though to be honest it is pretty boring. Like Hertzog was. Unlike Humboldt's Gift which was the best. I'll do more writing tomorrow.Visit my new Etsy Shop!! http://www.etsy.com/shop/twistedmysteries

Fair Aftermath

7:30 am
Well. Last night, after getting home at 6:30, unloading the car, making myself supper, eating and then fixing the damn toilet that has been needing repair for weeks but getting worse and worse over the past 2 days so that I could not just go to bed listening to it run, after all that, needless to say, there was no energy for anything resembling Evening Pages. Especially as the toilet was way harder to fix than I anticipated and took lots of going up and down stairs hunting for better tools, and continuously washing my hands, not for the reason one might think – that I was working on a toilet (that’s a good reason to wash them at the end, but I had to wash them over and over) – but because the stopper doohickey I was needing to replace and could not for the life of me get the hell off the other part of the flush mechanism was all falling apart and every time I touched it left my hands covered with nasty black greasy residue. And I still can’t get it out of my fingernails. Well, I did finally get the damn thing fixed so at least that was vaguely satisfying.
As for yesterday. Well I made all of $75 after taking off the $25 fee for being there. Obviously not worth it from a monetary point of view, especially when you consider that my stuff is priced such that I barely make anything reasonable from the time spent on making it, then when you add in the hours of time sitting at a booth, not to mention loading the bus, setting up, taking down, unloading the bus, then (still to be dealt with) in this case drying everything off. And with the wetness, I never took out the wheel, so I didn’t even get in any spinning. In some ways that was easier, I was free to just talk to everyone and help them hold bunnies, and I did do a tiny bit of knitting.
Let me think of the good parts: I saw M which was really good, though in a kind of surreal way. After all, I knew her before kids, and then at the very beginning of kids for both of us, and now I see her again after G’s graduation and as I found out T’s graduation from college. So in certain ways we are both on the other end of the child rearing stuff. Another good thing: the folks across from me had a food booth, and the woman got an angora neck-warmer from me and asked if I would consider trading it for a gift certificate from their restaurant The Blue Rock. So I now have a gift certificate, and it looks like a great place, and for some reason I find that all very pleasing. And I really liked the 2 owners, though when I ever manage to get there they will probably be in back cooking. But they said tell the waiter I am there and they’ll come out to say hi. Maybe I should work on doing more trades like that. The trouble is that at most craft fair kinds of things, there is very little that I want or need. But a restaurant, now that is a different story! I should add that I met other really nice folks, and I did honestly enjoy doing the bunny thing with everyone who stopped by; probably not trying to also spin made that a lot easier. Just wish I could get paid for all the bunny work!
So on to today. First I must run, since I didn’t yesterday. At 11 is J’s party, and I must make a salad. Then between 2 and 5 (though I suppose I need not stay at J’s until 2, especially since I just found out that G will actually not be there at all since she will be at work until 2 instead of 12 as she thought) I must make a fruit salad for bookclub, and somehow in all that I must pack for the farm, and lay stuff from the fair out to dry. On to it.

Morning

8 am
Boy I just don’t know. It’s summer. The living is easy. But I feel like shit. My mind is constantly full of bad terrible awful disastrous stuff, like Alexander in the book having his very bad day. I think about what it will be like getting old (very bad). I think about how hard life will be for the girls (very hard). I think about how ugly I am (very ugly and bound to get uglier). I think about environmental disasters – like invasive plants and terrible toxins and overpopulation and sprawl. I think about the precarious state of our food supply and things like E. coli outbreaks. I suppose some of it comes from the reading I do of magazines/newspapers. And some from listening to the radio. But I do not want to be an ignoramus. I want to be an informed citizen. It is my duty. Some comes from “too much leisure” as in, not exactly time on my hands, given all the huge ToDo lists, but opportunity to think random thoughts while doing those things. Actually once I get doing I am not usually so bad. It seems worse in the morning first thing. And maybe if I get myself off my duff and run this morning it will help. I certainly do have a lot of the ToDo’s today because tomorrow I go to the RiverFest and am not really ready. I started in on organizing things yesterday and it is a damn good thing I did because there is a lot to organize. I worked on the paper labels last night and printed up a bunch, they look sort of like this:

Angel the Angora Rabbit

which now must be cut and folded. And I got all the skeins etc out in part so they could air out and not smell so much of mothballs. I do not have high expectations for this fair, but I will try to enjoy it as best I can. I also got to the library yesterday and picked up some new books on cd and 2 “playaways” to listen to while I run. I think another part of the problem is that home alone as I am I do not have anyone to talk to. L popped by for about 15 minutes on her way from Maine to NY to go canoeing. It was veryvery nice to see her, but actually probably harder than if she had not popped by because her leaving left such a void. I think it was hard on G, too, since she had changed plans so she could “hang out” with L, but there was no hanging out involved. There was moving of stuff, finding of stuff, then goodbye.  I do very much like having G around, but she does not especially want to talk to me. Ok off to run. I guess I feel a tad better, thus a benefit to Morning Pages.
