Planning

8:30 am
Ok, I have options this morning, let’s think things through: I must leave for work at 11 to catch the 11:10 bus to get in at 11:45 in order to have time to run in the gym, take a shower and get to work by about 12:50. Lab starts at 1:15 and that should give me time to get ready, there’s not a lot to do to get ready. It is now 8:30. I must do the rabbits which will take about half an hour so that leaves 2 hours. I must get dressed, gather things like lunch and gym clothes, let’s say that takes half an hour. That leaves 1 ½ hours. Some options: make roasted vegetables for supper, make chocolate squares for lab, since I didn’t bring anything last week (make enough for today and tomorrow), spin, continue with washing the fleece that I started and left soaking last night. It needs to be spun out and rinsed. So how about this: I get dressed and get my stuff together, then do bunnies. After that I throw (note the term – “throw” – it implies that it won’t take very long…..) together some chocolate squares. I’ve been experimenting with these eggy very chocolaty things that come out kind of strange and kind of good. Maybe I’ll try sweetening them with maple instead of honey this time. Then I do the fleece. Or maybe I will start that spinning out first. What about the roasted veggies? Will there be time for them? Well, perhaps they will have to wait until after work. And we can eat them tomorrow. I have left-overs from last night that we can have tonight.
Ok, it’s a plan. Time to implement.

A Post!

8:40 am
To all my dear blog readers (…) who hang on my every word and have been wondering why I have not been writing:
My apologies. Life, of course, intervened. Classes started back up, and what is far worse, it is tax/fafsa season (fafsa being the free application for federal student aid). This has all taken a major toll on my time and my mood. Oh dear. But on the bright side, the weather is finally and gradually improving and so I have managed to: pluck one bunny, and breed three! Let’s see if I get results in 30 days. I have many more that are in somewhat desperate need of plucking, so I will gradually work away at that. I finished knitting up the muff, which came out pretty well, and the cup-cozy which if you ask me is completely foolish – how does one use and actually drink from the cup without getting the cozy all gross with drink and saliva? I fixed my wheel that broke this fall!!! That was a satisfying thing to do. And I have started (just started) spinning some lovely orange stuff that I carded/blended this fall. I will see if I can post photos, if not right now then soon. This weekend is SPA in Maine and part of me keeps thinking it would be fun to go, but the reality is that I will be much happier if I stay home. It’s a rather long drive and it will be better to stay here and get on top of the home stuff.

Routines and Dyeing

8:45 am
I really am a creature of habit. Generally it is good, since it means I can get up and not think very much but still get through the early morning stuff that I want to do – start the fire,  take my psillium and vitamins, start the oat bran cereal cooking, do my stretches. I do find that my back feels much better if I do those stretches religiously, so I do. And now it is nice to do Morning Pages. But life is intervening. Life as in Work. I was afraid of this. I just don’t have time to do all that, plus get dressed, gather lunch, DO THE BUNNIES (in caps because it is a rather major ordeal these days) and get to the bus in time. So the MP’s have suffered. It is too bad. AND there is the aerobics I’ve been doing. It was great during JTerm, but that is hardly “reality.” Now I need to get the 9 am bus to get there in time for lecture at 10, so unless I can get the 8:05 bus instead, I cannot do the running before lecture. There are 2 hours 11-1 between lecture and lab, and that might work eventually, but at first it is important to get things ready, and myself ready, not to mention eating lunch. On Thurs I had a bunch of stuff to do and I think I ended up eating lunch quickly and I was miserable all afternoon during lab. It felt like gas cramps, but I think it was more like a kind of blockage and I think was from eating too fast, and eating too many of those cookies I made loaded with coarse oatmeal! It made lab not at all fun, at least for me. Anyway, I will probably end up doing the running after lab, meaning I get home really late (after 6), meaning the buns get done really late, and supper gets done really late. Oh well. Yesterday I drove, which should have made everything easier, but I also had to stop at the farm for the winter vegetable share, and then at Atkins market for a few things. Once everything was finally done, I crashed into bed at 9:30.
What boring drivel this all is! I have a lovely day today all to myself. But not so lovely since I MUST finish financial stuff. Boring. Before I stretched I sat here at the computer drinking my psillium etc and reading emails and then I started in on the bag of potato chips that was sitting here. Oh dear. Not a good idea! And totally apropos of nothing, I am only writing it because now my stomach hurts and so it is on my mind!
I’ve been trying to dye with onion skins. I’ve saving the skins for a long time. A few weeks ago I started boiling them in a pot on the wood stove. It worked out very nicely and the liquid was a very nice rich golden color. But I had no mordanted wool to use. So the pot sat. And sat. and got moldy – really moldy! I finally scraped the mold off, and I set up a pot with wool and alum. I had a full 10 oz of wool and not much onion “juice” so I decided to boil more skins, only this time I used a different pot – one of the enamel ones I usually use for dyeing. But a lot of the enamel has worn off so first I scrubbed out the rust, then I let them boil. Not such a great color this time – kind of dark and murky. I added the wool anyway and it is a kind of nasty khaki green color. Oh well. I assume it was from the metal in the pot reacting somehow. I guess I’ll try again with the first pot for the onions, and try to find a more intact pot for the mordanting and final dyeing.
Today it would be very nice to try to get in some spinning. I finished the pink stuff. Now I can start in on the lovely orange sherbet stuff I carded this fall.

Double-Dip Snow Day!

8 am
Happy Groundhog Day! Not much chance of seeing shadows today. Wintry mix, etc. Yet another Snow Day, classes at work are closed, and even K is home from work all day.
Funny. Last night at First Person I read my journal pages from my lovely weekend at Temenos, and they mostly read like some sort of ridiculous blow by blow account of my every minute. There was an awful lot about trips to the outhouse and using (and emptying) the “night potty.” I tried to edit those out a bit as I read so it would not be too offensive! After the first day, it got a bit better and there was some good stuff. I will type up the 2 poems I wrote.
Today I must get the final info sent out for the fair brochure. Then that will be done and it is one big thing not to have to worry about for a while. Then I must start in on the tax stuff. That will not be fun. I am meeting with our tax person next Tuesday. This weekend will feel like a major gift since it already will feel like I have had a weekend! Maybe I will spend the whole day doing fiber! I brought my needle felted coasters to First Person and they liked them.
I have nothing else to say. How lame. How lame how lame how lame. I wish I were back at Temenos and could just sit and do nothing and not have it matter. I need to get myself to Brookfield Farm for the veggie pick up in the next couple of days. I suppose I’ll need to drive in tomorrow, so I could go after lab. At least I am only missing one lab; only one of mine will have to hassle with doing the work somehow in other labs. The Thurs and Fri labs will be fine.
Ok, I guess it is time to do bunny waters. K is out there shoveling. He did the back porch, which was very nice of him, but of course now makes me feel guilty and like a slouch. But then, now he is doing the driveway with the snow-blower, so I don’t feel so bad.
