More on Spinning and Bunnies and Books and What-not

6:30 am
It is lovely outside right now, hot in the house. It rained steadily all night which is good since my gardens were getting dry. I must plant the one I added compost to with more alfalfa. And I should go ahead and put some sunflowers in there just for kicks. One is coming up on its own. But the rest is coming up to weeds which I don’t want. And now there is the patch in front of the relocated cages. Eventually I will build more raised beds but meanwhile I should throw in some basil and cilantro. Things that are nice to have and don’t keep that well from a share picking.
Yesterday felt busy though I did not accomplish a whole lot. I did finish a bobbin (1 ½ oz) of the pink spinning. Now I can ply, then there are 2 more bags of 3 oz each. And I sewed up 3 hats, 2 of which I knit while on the trip (mostly in the car rides to and from DC). I ripped out the wrist-warmers I started bc they really are too small. I will try larger needles as they were too tight. They are will the second ball of the green fiber sandwich stuff so it is pretty darn thick and heavy. We’ll see how they are. I will start them again, but may decide not to use the yarn for that. I also had a dr appt., then finally biked up to Simple Gifts farm to grind wheat. Silly me – the ground stuff takes up much more room than the unground, so I could not do it all and still fit it on the bike. Anyway I did some and can now start a bread – IF the sourdough revives, it did not look great yesterday.
Interesting that my shoulder hurt a fair bit last night in bed. I assume that is from the spinning. I will keep it up and see how it feels and that can be part of what I talk to the surgeon about when I see him next week. It feels ok now, though typing is a bit annoying to it.
I need to figure out supper for tonight, and I should do that for the rest of the week while I am at it. For last night I cooked some of the Freekeh wheat. It cooked really easily – just soaked in boiling water. But the salad came out kind of dull and bland. I’ll have to look up some actual recipes. Today I think I will cook some black beans to go with the tortillas I got from the Mi Tierra folks. One crucial thing I am missing is cheese. I will probably need to bike later today to pick up the car, so I can get some then. Amazingly enough I am out of rabbit meat. The 2 fawn babies left from Cinnabun’s first litter are big enough, though I plan to keep one. And I need to photograph all the babies so I can post ads for them and see if I get any response. I only sold 4 at the fair this year. I actually had a few email requests – for a bunny and for fiber that I need to respond to. Ugh a lot of emails need to be responded to today. And a lot of other stuff that I did not do at all yesterday. I read several of the James Baldwin stories and now I have As I Lay Dying so I have started that. It is pretty short. And then there is the Why Read Moby Dick book that I started and of course will then need to actually re-read MB after I finish that. Bookclub got put off last month so I did not miss Dying and so must read that for mid-July. Then Go Tell it on the Mountain for August. I don’t remember what is after that.
Probably the best part of the day yesterday was when G offered to drive to meet K with the car to drop it at Ford. It gave me a sudden unexpected whole free 45 minutes! I spent most of it meditating which I would not have done. Not that it went that well, I have been quite distracted in meditation, probably comes from not being regular enough. But I found my watch (!) in the washed clothes….and I will meditate right now as soon as I finish this.
