Abbreviated Morning Pages today due to yet another lousy night of little sleep. But I did manage to write a poem while sitting on the back porch of the farm. Here goes:
Family Time
There’s a hub-bub swirling
And I have to escape.
A mother, sisters and nieces
Can bring me to the edge;
Add the dogs
And I need to escape.
The dogs circle and flow
Following each other in ever-changing maelstroms
Of chaos.
The conversations do the same.
While sister one
Discusses where to buy curtains
With niece three,
Sister two
Describes her trip to the lake
With niece two.
Niece one and a nephew praise the dogs
While Mother sits still in the midst,
A little dazed,
Asking “Green curtains? Did she say green?”
And then, “Did you say you saw a loon?”
She, too, praises the dogs
When the current brings one near.
It’s a curious flow
But a short immersion is all I can take
And then it’s time to escape.
