Home Again Home Again

6:40 am
The end of my blissful week. Sigh. Today I must pack everything up and head back – we need to leave by 2 to stop by Cummington on the way and get back by 4 so that I can get up to book club at the Bookmill at 5, then back for tutoring at 7:30. And thus far no one but me has read the book.  Another sigh.
G arrived yesterday, so the day went very differently from what had been my pattern. We went for a walk up into the woods – so I could tell her about the plants which of course was tons of fun. She took plant taxonomy at WW so now knows a lot, but of course learned the plants in NC many of which are the same, but some are different. I told her there would not be many woodland flowers still blooming, and what did she find as soon as we entered the woods, but a lady’s slipper! I had walked right by it the other day! We had a really nice walk, and I felt great being the resident “expert.” Then I did manage to get in more carding while she took a long nap. At 4:30 I decided to go for the requisite bike ride and we decided I would do the long way round, then go into N Adams, and she would meet me there for supper. We ended up at a new Sushi place which was pretty good. I ended up w a belly ache – I suppose from such a change to my recent eating pattern. But we had a good visit, talked a lot (another big change in my week!). Once we got home, sat on the porch to watch the sun set, I was pooped and just plain want to bed. I think she stayed up and made a fire. It was freezing here all day. Most of the day I wore my long underwear, a pair of lined jeans and a pair of regular jeans over the top.  Pretty sad.
As for the carding I did: I first carded up some pink angora. It was really clumpy, I think it may have felted some in the dyeing. So it took a long time to pull it apart and attempt to card. The idea is to spin it alone, then ply it with a strand of some purplish stuff, I think it is the dorset from long ago. We’ll see how it spins up. I suppose I could instead blend it with the dorset, that would end up purple with big pink blobs. Not too bad. Then I started in on some grey stuff. It is a blend of a lot of scraps from the scrap box. I divided it all, now I must do the blending. Not sure if I should just spin as is, or, which was my original idea, use it as the base for a fiber sandwich kind of thing. That might involve carding another color, then adding bits. Not sure I’ll have time to do all that today. Well, truth is I will not. And it is kind of nice to have some just plain grey yarn available to go with other things. So maybe today I will try to finish the blending part, and leave it at that. I sure do have a LOT of stuff now ready to spin! Way more than I will be able to get through this summer. Another sigh…. Especially with those three big lists that I transferred fri….
So I guess I’ll get up and going. Bed is the only warm place so it is very nice to lie here. Don’t know if it will warm up at all today. I will miss the peace and quiet, the birds, especially the space to spread out. K is off work tomorrow so we will go for a ride into Northampton. Maybe there is something we can do there. I suppose we’ll end up eating some where. It has been really nice here just eating when I want to and only what I want. And what I end up doing is eating bfast, midmorning snack, then a pretty big lunch around 2-30, and just a snack for supper. But at home I kind of have to fix the big supper for K when he gets home. Time to get up!
