Poems - here they are

SOAP

One more trip
To the basement
Loaded with laundry.
Start a wash
Dry a wash
Load a wash
Unload a wash.
And a towel-wrapped box
Catches my eye.
A towel wrapped box
Full of soap
But not just any soap.
Not gently scented soap
With blue and yellow swirls
Through each nicely shaped bar.
No, this soap is brown
Lumpy brown
Still in the plastic box
Where I poured spooned scooped dumped it
After I heated the fat
Goose Fat!
And added the lye
Red Devil!
And OOO it does get hot
Just like they say.
I stirred it
I mixed it
It clumped!
I messed up!
I stirred it some more
Until the magic occurred
And it was soap!
Raw, hot, unmellowed
But soap nonetheless.
I poured, spooned, scraped it into the box
And wrapped it in a towel
And there it is
Mellowed now
Aged and ready
Waiting for me
I’ll have to get it out
(Somehow!)
And cut it up
And then I’ll have soap
From Goose Fat!
From the goose we ate
(oh it was years ago)
And I saved the fat
And now I’ve made soap
And I feel so proud
As I lug the laundry
Up and down.
There it sits
My lovely soap

LISTS

So many things
I’ve managed to do!
So many things I can cross off
My list.
And then there are the ones
That are not crossed off.
The same ones
That were on the list
Three months ago.
The ones that carry over
Week after week.
Those are the harder ones.
Organize the bills
Start a new garden bed
Research Mom’s finances
Clean the garage

It’s good to include
The other things
Wash the dishes
Make supper
Hang the laundry
Take in the laundry
Sort the laundry
These things can be crossed off
So many things
I’ve managed to do!
