Compost!

7:30 am
I don’t think I’ll go running this morning. In fact I’ve missed several days mainly because I’ve been feeling kind of crummy from the cramps from the biopsies they did during the sigmoid- and endo-scopies on Wednesday. And besides that I’ve been incredibly busy. This Wednesday the Animal Control Officer – Carol Hepburn – is coming to inspect the rabbits to get them registered per the new town regulation. I’m nervous about it. I decided I’d better get some of the hay and droppings cleaned up from under the cages, but that starts a whole cascade of steps: there is not much room in the old compost bins, and the stuff in there is very old and very much ready to be spread around. So, before starting new compost piles, those must be dealt with. That decided me to actually make a garden bed, something I’d been meaning to do forever. And I did it. Of course, I needed wood and I had the brainstorm (being cheap) of trying to use some of the wood from the barn that I noticed that is falling down near the mini golf place. That took some time, gathering that wood, which I did on Friday. Saturday I removed the nails, cut and screwed and put the bed together, then set to work filling it. I put in a layer of uncomposted stuff from under cages, then a thick layer of the compost. That took care of most of one bin. I decided to put some under the blueberries, so first I had to pick those. Did that yesterday, which of course took time, then I put a wheelbarrow of compost there. Next I decided some could go out front, but of course, first that flower “bed” had to be weeded a bit. So I did that. Of course some of what I weeded could go to buns so I did that. The rest just went into a pile ready for the next bin. And a couple a barrows full of compost went there. I still have about 1 ½ bins that need emptying. And I do want to empty them because what I’d like to do would be to make whole new bins since the old ones are falling apart. Meanwhile I only got a bit of the bunny stuff cleaned up. Well it is not too bad, and really the next thing I need to do is get that bottom wire so I can repair some cage bottoms.
So today I guess I continue to have plenty to do. And G and I must do some errands to continue to get her ready, and I have my own errands – farmers supply to get wire, bank – both of them for both of us, groceries. Should I buy more wood to build another bed? If I buy it then it will be a lot quicker to build. Oh and I need to get some mink oil from Paul’s shoe repair in town. And besides all that I have a ton of “at home” stuff I need to do. Like continue to plow through the pile on the table in the kitchen, and continue to reconcile the bank account, and once it is reconciled (I’m through June so far) I need to go back and do the splits for the credit cards. And go back over college expenses.
I went to the last KO last night. It was great. Very surreal and odd – the set was all white pallets set up to delineate a house, but painted white, and all kind of crooked with holes cut in. it was this surreal story about a graphic artist and his background, and him trying to deal with his past and then stepping back into it, his past being a rather miserable cold place where his mother and sister had started an inn to make money so they could get out, but their way to make money was to murder the guests…… it was all quite surreal and strange. And no more til next year.
