Cultural Enrichment

9 am
New idea: this morning I went for a nice bike ride for exercise instead of running, as per L’s suggestion. Her idea, quite a good one, is that I should find something I LIKE to do, rather than miserably running. The other good part is that I finished my latest book on tape, so for me to find running tolerable I’ll need to start a new book, while with biking the speed and changing scenery make it interesting enough. K came with me this morning, big surprise, and we ended up at the bakery for tea and pastries. Can’t say that is especially sustainable as far as a healthy start to the day goes, but it was nice for a first time!
Went up to the farm Friday to pick up hay and stack what was left. I also finally tried putting together the shelving set that my sister left there. It is very heavy, but I think I’ll try it out at the next fair.
Yesterday I ended up having a “cultural enrichment” day. At 3 I biked up to the college to watch the KO festival performance. It was great, about a woman and her relationship with performing and studying Joan of Arc. Then at 7:30 L and I walked up to the college observatory lawn to see another KO performance, this time the Mettawee group performing some traditional stories from a culture in northern Japan. It was fantastic, both were fantastic and I really enjoyed going. I’m so glad L decided to come with me, it of course made it much more fun. Boy I sure am going to miss her when she leaves in 3 weeks.
So besides that I actually managed to finish the green stuff! Now I have different green stuff to spin (lighter), and I need to card the lumpy fawn angora so I can spin that. I also have some calls to make: the exterminator because we have a nest of carpenter ants in the side of the house, and my niece about house sitting in August. And probably others that I can’t think of. And letters to write. I wrote one yesterday to my friend while waiting for the play to begin. I need to do the grocery shopping, so that will take up most of the morning, and by the time I get home I assume it will be roastingly hot, which will suck. It would be better to do the errands later when I don’t want to be outside. Well, for that reason, maybe I will start with the carding, and do the shopping after. I also must put some attention to the cages this week. Part of the green stuff I spun I did not skein off but want to knit right into a scarf from the bobbin. But I can do that kind of thing anywhere anytime, so I guess I’ll wait to start that. Right now I have the “grass-fed” babies out in their grass pen. It may start to rain later, so I’ll need to keep an eye on that.
I have nothing else to say. It sure is majorly nice having the girls around (both) this summer. G went to the Green River Fest this weekend and it sounds like she had a great time. She’s been pretty darn cheerful lately. I think she likes having L around, too. She’d probably be just as happy to have JUST L around….
