Did “Wednesday Night Dinner” (so named because we used to do this every Wed, way back “in the day” with these folks) yesterday which was fun, though it was basically an entire day affair. The impetus for it was Monday when I was doing something, looking for something in the freezer and getting frustrated because it is so full, and lo and behold, I found, not only the huge beef roast that has been there since the fall, but a huge pork roast that I don’t even remember getting. Both, of course, from the Meeting Place Pastures meat share. Which I love, it’s just that they occasionally have these huge honking chunks of meat that are hard to use when it is just the two of us (seeing as G hasn’t eaten with us all year). So, I decided the solution would be to cook this roast and have a lot of people over to eat it. Which I did, and it was very successful. And the roast came out great! Except, another factor was that after I had made all the plans, invited all the guests, etc, I realized that yesterday was going to be the hottest day of the summer, not really a day for roasting a chunk of meat in the oven for several hours… so I looked on line and found instructions for roasting it on the grill, and I even brined it, and it did turn out fabulous. And our wimpy, ancient, side-of-the-road grill did a fine job (with a reasonable bit of monitoring).
The other big task for the day (boy was it busy) was ERRANDS. Note the capitalization. There were many. Let’s see: Leader to buy an oven thermometer and a new door knob, DVDen to return videos, College Library to return All Quiet and pick up Jenny our next read), Town Hall to pay the water/sewer bill, Collective Copies where I Xeroxed stuff, town library to return the other Remarque books that I decided not to read (and I picked up a knitting book – why???? – from the book sale shelf, it has possible useful easy pattern ideas, and it has good beginner instructions, I might have it in my booth as a give-away, or just use it to help me modify/improve my own instructions), to CVS to buy stuff and thus use the coupons I had, PO to mail L ’s package and buy stamps, Music House to get the penny whistles (except they are closed until Sat!!!), then back to the camperbus (parked near the College) and on to the grocery store, the bank, then HOME having decided to skip: Salvation Army and Sears. Maybe I’ll do those today. WHEW!!!
Then when I got home I had to start the grill and roasting, and set up all the table stuff. We ate outside near the woodpile on the two plastic booth tables covered with booth table clothes. It involved a lot of gathering of chairs from all over, and cutlery and plates which took being creative since we hardly have 14 versions of anything. So that was yesterday. And the good news is that it went well and the food was great and I think everyone had a decent time. Two friends brought the fixings for Margueritas, blender and all, which we made outside by the garage using an extension cord. It was really funny. And I had a bit more than perhaps I should have, or perhaps just downed it a bit too quickly, so I was quite buzzy while dinner began. Thank goodness I had lots of help getting food to the table by then!
So on to today. Hmmm. What? Well, the bad news is that the sun room has become a huge mess again which it very quickly does if attention is not constantly paid. So I guess I’d better deal with that. And I’ll continue the sorting of piles inside the house that I was working on earlier in the week. Bunny litters are done
– no more coming for the foreseeable future which is good. Amber seems to have not successfully bred this time (unless there is a surprise for me this morning), so I might try her later, at the end of the summer, for a fall litter. I would very much like to spin the rest of the green stuff
and start the light green stuff. I started a solar dyeing of blue angora, which gave me a ridiculously blue hand,
and it should be ready to rinse (maybe I’ll use gloves this time, huh?). So I guess there is plenty to do. And I think I will actually run this morning.
And here's a photo of the Wonder Dog just for fun:
