Sitting by the Fire

8:40 am
Oh I do love my Tuesdays! I have gobs to do – mainly grading the presentations from last week – but at least I can stay home. Well, I will probably go into town. I need to get to cvs to pick up a bunch of stuff, so perhaps I will stop in Black Sheep and grade there for a while. What I really want is a palm pastry, but those are only at Atkins and I don’t want to go all the way there. I had one the other day, now that I seem able to tolerate sugar, and now I am craving them. Trouble. At Black Sheep I can get a nice almond croissant, so that is nearly as good.
What I love (besides delicious pastries) is to sit and stare at the fire in the wood stove. Thank goodness it has a window so I can watch the flames. I can do that quite contentedly for many many minutes. Not even really thinking, just sitting. And it is warm! sitting here at the computer desk is quite chilly. Last night I spent most of the evening sitting right there by the fire listening to On Agate Hill on cd and knitting. Well, in reality, it wasn’t that long that I was doing the sitting and knitting part. A lot of the evening I spent cutting up winter vegetables and roasting them, but I was still listening to the cd. I’m actually glad it is finished. It was one of those ones that can get addicting. For some reason the George Washington biography is not as addictive. In fact, it is probably overdue and not yet finished. Speaking of books, I did not even get the bookclub selection this time: Hotel On the Corner of Bitter and Sweet. It did not appeal and I guess I will just skip it. I might still go to the meeting. It will certainly not be the first time someone has shown up without having read the book…. Next month we are scheduled to do poetry. That should be interesting.
Well, what about the fair last weekend? Oh, it was ok. Tedious and not terribly lucrative. In fact downright discouraging, though I am not in any way ready to call it quits. I brought a bunny each day, and I am wondering if that is in fact a bad idea. What happens is that everyone crowds around fascinated by the bunny, but they don’t pay attention to the stuff I am selling. It certainly draws attention to the booth, but perhaps not the correct attention. Maybe I will try not bringing one to the next show. And I MUST put together some knitting kits. Too many folks stop, like the yarn, but do not know what they would do with it. I’ve been thinking this for years, well maybe this winter and spring is the time to really focus on it. It will be nice to have no more fairs for a while. They are exhausting.
So, today, the biggest thing I must do is grade the presentations. And bring in more wood. And pick stuff up in town. Seems like that is plenty enough, especially when you add in things like feeding the buns which still needs to be done.
