Dog Woes and Snow

7 am
I was actually looking forward to sleeping in this morning as I was so exhausted from yesterday (x-c ski), but Tigger got me up at 5:30 with whining and barking. So I dragged myself up, gave him food, put wood on the fire, and when it was clear that he was going to insist on going out, I let him out, meaning I then had to wait a bit then get all the outdoor gear on to go out and pick him up to bring him back in. Then I did go back to bed, but I did not really sleep and at 6:30 he finally got me back up with his barking. But then it was not clear what he wanted. He had not finished his breakfast, and he was just lying by the bedroom door, so I first tried to help him up. That does not seem to work – it seems to hurt him if I try to lift him from lying down. I have to get him to get at least partly up before I can lift him, but he seems to be having more trouble with that. He yelped when I tried and I felt bad. I managed to coax him up with a biscuit, then I could lift his hind end with the diaper and help him back to his food. He did not seem that interested, or he seemed to be having trouble eating it for some reason. Anyway, he did finally finish and then it became clear that he wanted to go back outside. So that is where he now is. At some point I will have to go back out and get him. He can hobble around a bit, but it is very hard to coax him in, he just lies there looking at me. So then I will go out, coax him up with a biscuit and I can then help him walk with the leash around his hind end. Right now he is just standing outside the fence near the road. He either wants to hang out there or go into the neighbor’s yard, which I don’t want him to do. Now he is struggling his way through the crusty snow towards the neighbor’s. He is really struggling, but he seems to want to do it. God Damn it. Now I have to go get him. Meaning get wool pants coat and boots on and got out there bc he won’t come back to our yard. Ok. I did that. I got him back in. let’s see how long that lasts. I feel terrible about it, but it also is just too much.
Ok. Now I am sitting by the fire, I will try to take a deep breath and let it all go. Let it all go.
So yesterday it snowed which is nice. I actually did sleep kind of late – I had forgotten to give T his medicine at night, and he did not wake up to bug me until 7… maybe I will try that again tonight. Anyway, I shoveled, I fed buns, etc, and decided I would try skiing and then get the bus down the road. Well it was a good idea, but because of the snow the buses were off schedule, so I ended up missing the one I was going to get (I even called to find out where it was, but they misjudged how long it would take to get there, and I watched it drive by). I skied back to Hampshire and then waited and waited for half an hour (more?) at the bus stop. I did some knitting, but then it was just really cold, and I was wet (it had started raining, and besides that I was sweaty) and it was pretty miserable. And so I did not get to work until 12:45. Met with others re library labs, then I did more with the case study labs, and that was about all I had energy for. I left, went to PO – oh, before I left in am I did manage to write checks to pay bills, now I just had to send Mom’s estimated tax payments certified. Took the 4:50 bus home. And then dealt with Tigger, fed buns, started a fire etc etc. L came by to pick up the car – she has a dentist appointment today – and we had supper (toasted cheese, borscht that she brought, and sauerkraut) and ….very exciting news: she is going on the winter wilderness trip! She is so so so excited and I am really happy for her. It will be a bit of a whirlwind for her to get ready for it, and also be spending so much time working. And she is trying to decided if she should see if she can get/use Gma’s car.
Ok. Enough writing I guess. I guess I ought to get going. At least I do not have to go in until really late today. I think how it will work is that L will drive up at 2:30. I’ll take her to her dentist, then go meet a friend for tea (we talked about it the other day). Then at 4 I’ll go back and get L, drop her back at her work, and I’ll go in to work to teach my last spinning class. Before then I would like to do more spinning. I actually managed to finish the 3 skeins last night, so the Crystal stuff is done, time to move on to the next measured out batch of angora. Once I get the drum carders back home, I want to set the fine one up downstairs and card up some brushed and walnut dyed angora that I can spin and knit into a chemo hat for a friend. I have finished knitting the square for the bunny someone requested, just need to sew it together. AND it would be good to do a bit more plucking today – Cassandra really needs it.
